Transatlantic Currents: Ireland and America in the Modern Era
(45 contact hours)
Examine the historical connections between the U.S. and Ireland over the past 200 years. Explore the impact of Irish emigration to America, from the early Scots-Irish settlers through the exodus of the Great Famine and the generations of emigrants who followed down to the end of the twentieth century through readings, lectures, and discussions.

Myth, Legend and Folklore: Exploring Early Irish Literature (45 contact hours)
Discover Ireland as one of the first literary nations in Western Europe.  Explore mystical tales originally written in the Irish language. Examine how, over time, the mythology and pagan beliefs of early Ireland transformed into modern day fairytales, folklore and superstitions. 

Screening Ireland: Irish Film into the 21st Century (45 contact hours)
Discover the cultural, social, and political contexts of Irish cinema. Examine key themes and issues in films made about and in Ireland. Explore the constructed notions of "Irishness" and how changes in Irish society since the 1970s are reflected in, and influenced by cinema.

EXCURSIONS

Ireland is your classroom--excursions to cultural and historical sites inand around Dublin are an integral component of the academic program. Past excursions included day trips to Leinster House, Wicklow, Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin's art and literature museums, and theater performances.

ACADEMIC CREDIT

All courses offered in Dublin are recognized and approved for academic credit by various NCSA and MCSA member institutions. Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad adviser for more information. Not all courses listed are offered every term. Course offerings are subject to change depending on enrollment and availability.
