SEGOVIA PROGRAM OVERVIEW
These semester-long Spanish immersion programs are designed for intermediate- and advanced-level Spanish language students. All courses are taught in Spanish, making this program ideal for Spanish majors and minors as well as students interested in taking courses in Art Hstory, European Studies, History, Literature, Spanish Culture, and more. Students will improve their Spanish language skills in this impressively historical and picturesque city, while still being only 25 minutes by high-speed train from Spain's capital, Madrid. In addition, students live in a home-stay which further supports their immersion into Spanish society and culture. Students will attend courses at the AHA Center with other American students from all over the U.S., yet also have the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in local culture and explore friendships with Segovians. Students can participate in tandem language learning activities with local university students or do an internship at a local business or organization. Excursions to neighboring sites of importance and other group activities are included in the program fee.
Internship and Service Learning placements are also available to qualified students who are committed to gaining a unique perspective into Spanish life. The internship or service learning placement contains both the practical element of working and a reflective element, through the accompanying Internship and Service Learning Seminar. In addition to the internship or service learning placement, students will enroll in two to three other AHA courses. Students wishing to enroll in an internship or service learning placement need to be flexible and committed to the internship schedule and responsibilities entailed from both a professional and personal standpoint. Because of the time commitment required, you may sometimes have to forgo a program activity or excursion in order to fulfill your responsibilities to the organization.
